Providing you and your deaf pup with the tools to succeed, using proven sign and cue-based training
It is not more difficult to train a deaf dog – it simply requires a different approach. Working with a pup who has lost their hearing offers a unique opportunity to truly establish a deep connection between the dog and their handler, as the pup is more reliant than usual on their owner’s cues and signals to understand what behaviors are expected of them in any given situation. Through the use of non verbal cues, positive markers, and vibrations via the training collar, clarity of communication is established allowing your dog to live their best life. Your pup is just as eager to please as any other dog who has not lost their hearing; Ridgeside K9 Nashville is honored to have helped countless deaf dogs and their families bridge the communication gap and achieve harmony and neutrality together.
Our 3 Week Deaf Dog Board and Train program has your pup learning the same tasks and obedience skills as non-hearing impaired dogs accomplish in our Basic Obedience program – just with a slightly different approach. We use non-verbal cues, positive markers, and vibrations via their training collar to establish a solid foundation for clear communication. Once that clarity of communication has been established and mastered, we teach your pup impulse control, off leash recall, door and leash manners, and help them perfect tasks such as sit, down, stay and leave it. Your trainer will be in contact with you every single day, sharing photos, videos, and a debrief of everything your pup has learned that day, as well as detailing what the training plan is for the next day. The program includes pick up service the day your dog onboards with us, their training collar, and a 3 to 4 hour turnover session at the end of training. This learning session is especially crucial to your pup’s success; it is when your trainer teaches you your dog’s new method of communication and helps you master the skills needed to build upon all they have learned. Your Board and Train program also includes our lifetime Support guarantee – if ever you or your pup run into difficulties, or have any questions once they are home, we are there to help you train through it, completely free of charge. As long as your dog is part of your pack, we are there to ensure you are both happy and successful!
